I guess I'm a little naive, I thought that with CANNT 2002 coming in November coupled with past discussions by Techs across the country, one of the key note speakers would have something to do with Technology and it's impact on Nephrology.
I suppose Sue Johanson will be "funnier" or "more interesting " to listen to then someone talking about the changes in machines, dialyzers and treatments from the early days of hemodialysis in the 60's to present day. Obviously, discussions about "team environments" in the workplace and how WE ALL play a large part in patient care is not a "hot" topic for Nurses and Techs to talk about, afterall we all get along, right? I get a little tired of speakers directing the forum to RNs and then realizing what they've done, make sure the next time the word Nurses is used they add...."oh and the Techs too!"
Somebody please explain to me what relevance Sue Johanson has in speaking at CANNT. Please understand that I hold nothing personal against her and I find her topics very enjoyable and interesting. How it pertains to me and my job, I'm not sure.
I really felt that CANNT had an opportunity to show the importance of the Renal Technologist at this years Conference and they are failing to do so. In Winnipeg we met as a group in the foyer of the hotel, now we play second fiddle to "The Sex Lady". There has to be someone in North America that can speak to both disciplines (Technologists and Nurses) at the same time and be related to our work. As long as CANNT represents both groups they have an "obligation" to us(Techs) to bring in keynote speakers that talk about Technology and it's impact.
I'd like to hear anyone's views on this topic. I ask that when you explain yourselves you show profesionalism, wether you are in support of CANNT, or bewildered like myself.
