The role of the technologist, now there's a debate that could take a dozen or so messages... The influence and role of the technologist to a dialysis unit is something that is different in close to every unit. It goes from the two polar extreme's, tech's who just fix the machines that are placed outside their door, to tech's who act almost as clinical educator's to the nursing staff. As Mr. Bura and Mr. Huska just pointed out, there is a large difference between what a technologist in hospital X does, to what a tech in hospital Y does. Unfortunately, I don't think this is a subject that a nation wide body, such as CANNT, has a responsibility to define. Also, I wonder how much weight any definition would carry.

I am dissapointed again, with CANNT's line up of presentations. It looks like it will live up to the previous years, where more weight is placed on socializing with colleagues, than educating. I tend to avoid CANNT's symposium for just that reason, the presntations will not make up for spending a weekend away from my family.

I do realize that my complaining will change nothing, and that action is the only thing that brings about change. I have great hope that in time CANNT becomes an orgaization that will reflect the skills and knowledge of the Canadian nephrology community, however if it continues with symposium's such as the one scheduled, I will continue to attend the anuual ANNA confrence.
