You are right.
We've gone away from making dialyzers by hand...but where are we headed to? It wasn't that long ago we performed such treatments like SCUF, CAVH AND CAVHD without the aid of any equipment, now hi-tech machines have taken over where gravity, patients blood pressures or Imed pumps did the work.

Why can't someone speak about the changing roles of the Technologist and the Nurse in the last 40 years or so and what those roles will be in 10 to 20 years from now? Why have these roles changed and how has Technology played a part in these changes? Is it for the benefit of the patient?
Is there a dependency on Nurses to rely heavily on Technologists or Technology? Are Technologists becoming less clinical in their daily activities and are Nurses becoming more technical? I know that the Satellite Nurses that we speak to on the phone show a different appreciation of our roles than what our in-center Nurses do. Sometimes when different disciplines work closely alongside each other, we start to take each other for granted. We are a team in the health care field and I feel that should be always reflected at the CANNT Conference.

Personally, I think there are interesting things to talk about, I don't think anybody is tooting our horn at all and the standards we have set in our work place have allowed the Nurses to deliver the best Health Care possible!
